The Gibb's of Hudson, Qc(Alan & Barbara; Christine, Natalie & Robertson) Barbara hails from Thunder Bay where many happy summer and Christmas memories are made for our three - Christine, Natalie and Robertson. Barb is a dental hygienist and loves gardening, floral arranging, cooking and local theatre. She is recovering from a broken ankle so our usual summer expeditions of hiking and wilderness canoe trips have been put on hold for a while. Over the years we have hosted exchange students from Germany and Thailand. Maybe that is why the girls have the travel bug. Alan works for a small plastics manufacturer located south of Montreal. He is a creative pumpkin carver and enjoys the detective work involved in tracing family histories (there are some colourful and questionable characters in the Gibb family!) . Hiking, canoeing, hockey, running, Canadian and International films and the very occasional game of golf fill in most free hours. After finishing her master's at the University of Guelph, (doing her research in Ghana) Christine moved to downtown Montreal and until recently, worked at the UN Convention on Biological Diversity. It afforded her travel to Switzerland, Germany and Norway. The loves in her life include swing dancing, running (she will compete in the 2009 Boston Marathon) cross country skiing and Frank, her long term beau. She plans to present a paper in Kenya this summer. Christine and Natalie have been involved with pre trip preparation of international development students. Natalie, based in Gatineau, Qc works at a few jobs: Sierra Youth Coalition, Learning for a Sustainable Future and translation work. Last summer she helped start up an organic farm - from the ground up - starting seeds in the greenhouse they built, to raising chickens. She is a global traveler and has studied or done volunteer stints in Germany, Chile and Panama. This fall Natalie will start graduate school in British Columbia. Among Natalie's passions are the environment, languages, running, shinny hockey with her siblings and Amelia Earhart (the cat). Robertson (Rob) is finishing year four of a five year civil engineering/business program at McMaster. He is on the university cross country running and track teams. He has become a proficient playboat kayaker and is a key member of the McMaster white water kayak club. Summer jobs have included kayak instructor and working for engineering firms and the ministry of Transport in Southwestern Ont. He hopes to make it to Montreal to head out with Christine to enjoy Montreal's superb kayaking waves (and his Mom's cooking).
